How Do You Get A Bird Out Of Your Garage?
Birds stuck in garages are generally confused, disoriented and want to be there even less than you want the to be there. As such, getting them out must be taken gently!
- Turn off the lights. Lighting can confuse a bird even more, so having the light reduced can help them.
- Open the windows. A bird will try to escape through any route it can, so allow them many places to escape.
- Close any doors leading into other areas of the house, so the bird cannot fly in even further.
- Remove pets and small children from the area, to avoid spooking the bird even more than it already is.
- Place food and water near the exit. The bird should hopefully spot this and head towards it, then escape through the exit.
- Darken the garage completely. This can calm the bird enough that you are able to catch it.
- Use a large covering to catch it. If the bird has landed on something, you can pop a towel over it to scoop it up and release it – but this should be a last resort as birds are very sensitive.

How Can I Help A Bird Trapped Inside?
Birds, when trapped inside an area and denied the ability to fly free, can find things pretty stressful.
In fact, a trapped bird, who doesn’t know that glass windows are not actually the outside world, can cause itself a lot of damage by throwing itself at windows repeatedly.
The best way you can help a bird trapped inside is to remain calm.Low noise and slow movements will not panic the bird, so keep yourself as slow and calm as possible.
Another way you can help is to open all the windows. As long as the bird can see freedom, it will try to go for it, so having them all open as far as possible should help an escape.
Leaving food and drink near an exit will also help your trapped bird; it will hopefully smell its nourishment and head towards this – then freedom!
If you see your bird perch on something for a time, try approaching it with a towel. Throwing a towel (gently!) over the bird will prevent it being scared and should enable you to scoop it up and get it outside where it belongs.

- Give it a minute or two until the hummingbird has settled itself onto the tines of the rake.
- Very slowly, move the rake towards the direction of the open door of the garage.
- Hold the rake up into the open air, and watch the little guy shoot off into freedom!
